Alex is the son of a single immigrant mother of four children who instilled in all of them the immense privileges and opportunities that lie ahead in this great country. As early as high school the family’s entrepreneurial spirit drove him as he put himself through college and university doing freelance construction jobs. Alex understood the value of academics having achieved a Doctorate in Business, yet recognized that it is no substitute for practical real life experiences. He has served as vice-president at two fortune 500 companies and managed his own firm for 15 years. In the process, he has acquired a well-rounded approach to business success. Unlike many analysists whose approach is limited to hard numbers and ratios, Alex’s includes less tangible components such as the proper employee incentives, market opportunities, and long-term vision.
2002-2016 Benchmark Custom Builders II – Owner/President
Benchmark and its subsidiaries were a construction & development group with a diverse resume of projects ranging in cost from $2 to $8 million. Their product mix included mid-rise buildings, shopping centers, and custom homes. Alex was responsible for operations, financing, investor relations, product development, government approvals, and marketing. Most recently, their subsidiary, Benchmark Remediation Group, was the court-appointed firm responsible for managing the national reconstruction of homes by Moss under the Knauf Chinese Drywall Class Action Settlement.
1999-2001 Watermark Communities Inc. (WCI) – Regional Vice President
At the time, WCI was the second largest homebuilder in Florida, specializing in high-end master-planned golf course communities throughout the state. Alex was selected to lead an aggressive turn-around of a region with three divisions that were plagued with low margins, low employee morale, poor net profits and dismal customer service ratings. The profitability gains were achieved by solving a host of construction problems, enabling the company to close twice as many homes by year end, while gross margins were improved primarily by improving the product mix. Morale improvement was accomplished primarily by properly defining job descriptions, employing a high-performance delivery team, along with implementing the proper operating procedures.
1993-1999 Lennar Homes – Vice President/Construction Dade Division
Alex began employment as a Construction Manager and was promoted to Area Construction Manager within six months. In 1995, he was promoted to Vice President of Construction for Dade County and was responsible for operations, construction, acquisitions, and profit & loss. In 1999 alone, he built 1,105 homes in 29 communities throughout the east coast of Florida with prices ranging from $69,990 to over $700,000. Alex developed Lennar’s Doral Isles, a 2,850-unit master-planned community, including the government approvals, product development, model center, recreation center and sales center. Doral Isles has been featured in Builder Magazine and was the recipient of 13 Building Industry Association Fame Awards, including Best of Show, Land Planning, Overall Community, Architectural and Interior Merchandising.
Charitable Giving: Alex and his wife Christine built Grace International Orphanage in Hyderabad, India which houses and educates young girls rescued from the sex slave trade. He is the founder of FaithFromEvidence.org a Christian ministry that helps churches establish an apologetics program, and has served as youth pastor and music minister. He is in the final stages of publishing his third book, How Christianity Built Western Civilization.
Personal: Alex’s greatest joy is his wife and three girls which he is raising on a farm in Central Florida where they rescue and raise over 300 animals at any given time. On his spare time, Alex enjoys writing about and training world class German Shepherds.
